Endangered Voices

A documentary about the languages of our world that are going extinct, and how to prevent us from losing them forever

A documentary about our dying languages, and the people in Norway who have dedicated their lives to bringing them back.

Endangered Voices is a film about the rapid extinction of languages around the world.

We follow Jack Connor as he first visits Tromsø, Norway to meet the Samí speakers and linguists that helped to bring the Samí language back from the brink of extinction, to become a mainstream part of Northern Norwegian life. Here, we learn exactly why these languages have become endangered, and how they can be revitalized.

We then visit Svalbard, near the arctic circle to deposit rare language data from extinct dialects from around the globe. We learn how language preservation works, and how Jack is storing books, movies, audio and even artificial intelligences to ensure that even our world’s extinct languages are never truly lost.
